It’s almost that day – July 29th – that you first came into this world, only one year ago. We may have been miles apart that day, but your Grandma sent text messages and photos the instant you were born, so it felt like I was really there in spirit. I’ve only been able to see you just a few times since you were born… and each time, you are a little bit bigger, a little bit stronger, and just as adorable!
When trying to decide what to get for your birthday present, I was torn – something practical and useful for Mom, like diapers or food? Something fun and playful that will keep your attention for a year or two? Something soft and cuddly that will lie next to you in your crib and someday remind you of Aunt Rae Rae? Then, it occurred to me: what about a website? Now, I know, it’s not the typical gift you bestow upon a one-year-old. But I was thinking long term – why not a gift that you could use someday? Here’s why, little Gavin, your crazy Auntie decided to give you this strange gift:
- You may find yourself one day in need of a personal website – for whatever reason – and you’ll have it! No one can ever purchase and take the name gavinharden.com – it’s now yours, forever and for whenever you may need it or choose to sell it.
- Your Mommy and Daddy love you so very much, why not give them a place where they can keep a record of your childhood? Keep photos, stories, videos… and someday, you’ll all – as a family – be able to look back and remember all of those great times.
- Your grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends from afar miss you, and wish they could just stop in anytime to see how you’re doing! Well, now they can – in some way – pop in and watch as you grow up, leave comments, and even write their own stories if Mom and Dad say it’s OK.
- And finally, I’m much better at making websites than I am at buying baby presents
So, Happy Birthday, Gavin! May this be the first entry of many, many great stories, announcements, and memories. You’re a lucky kid – you have great parents and a family that loves you to pieces. No doubt, you’ll have plenty of toys this birthday, and you won’t be sad that I didn’t send you extra onesies!
Love,
Aunt Rae Rae
